We've asked our customers why they chose Port Charlotte. Customers came to our area to enjoy boating, fishing, the Gulf beaches, beautiful views of Charlotte Harbor and the low-cost of living. It's only 15-35 minutes to the beach: Englewood Beach, Blind Pass Beach and Manasota Beach. It's wonderful to enjoy balmy temperatures and fresh fruits and vegetables during the winter.
Bob moved here in 1987 after the blizzard of '78 in Massachusetts. Bob chose Port Charlotte after looking from Tampa to Naples and as far east as Orlando. While in Orlando the overnight temperatures were around freezing, and started looking below the frost line. Naples to Fort Myers was too expensive and Port Charlotte was just right. Bob loves to golf; and there are seven to eight golf courses in Charlotte County. The Tampa Bay Rays have Spring Training in Port Charlotte and play their games at the Charlotte County Sports Park with plenty of parking across the street at the Charlotte County fairgounds.
Jen loved all the the waterfront, palm trees and sun. There is so much to do in Florida. Port Charlotte is on Charlotte Harbor (in Charlotte County) which is on the Gulf of Mexico. It's close to three beaches, the Gulf islands and a short drive to Tampa, Sarasota, Fort Myers, Naples and only two to three hours to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Jen realized she could enjoy all that Florida has to offer while enjoying low-cost living in Port Charlotte. She enjoyed scuba diving and the white beaches of Destin, going airboating in the swamps of Hernando County, and going on cruises out of ports of Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Jen loves to go on rides in amusement parks and was thrilled to experience all of Disneyland; and enjoyed Epcot and the Tower of Terror the most. When the grandchildren visited, Bob & Jen went on rides at the Islses of Adventure and Universal Orlando.
It's so easy to fly in and out of Florida to visit friends and family. We've flown out of or met family at seven airports near Port Charlotte. Ask Jen and she'll tell you which airports to consider for the lowest fare or best flight connections to visit family, or how long it takes to drive to anywhere in Florida. However, Jen soon realized, "Why go anywhere else in the world when we already live in paradise?"
For shopping, there is the Port Charlotte Town Mall which is the largest DeBartolo mall in Florida. Major chains include Home Depot, Lowes, Wal*Mart, Sams Club, Ace Hardware, CVS.
